Corinthians continued their excellent form by beating Grêmio on Sunday, and opening up a four point lead at the top of the Série A. They don’t play the sort of football that you might associate with Brazilian league leaders – its more like the stuff that Arrigo Sacchi would be proud of. But they are well organised, hardly concede any goals and know how to win football matches. On current form, nobody will stop them. Can they keep it up? Continue reading
Can Flamengo really win the league?
Just over a month ago, on the eve of the competition, I predicted Flamengo would win the Série A. But after eight league games played, they have just 11 points, are in 10th position and nine points off the pace. Can they still do it? Continue reading

Série A week 1: Vinicius Júnior makes professional debut
Bahia were the big winners in the opening round of the Série A, thumping an under strength Atlético Paranaense 6-2. Corinthians, São Paulo and Santos had days to forget. My predictions and fantasy football team all got off to a lousy start. Continue reading
Série A 2017 preview
Brazilfooty is back and the Brazilian 2017 Série A kicks off this weekend. To mark both of these highly auspicious events in global football, Brazilfooty has prepared an in-depth Série A review. It has been a herculean effort for a part-time blogger: social plans were cancelled; reluctant support from an unimpressed girlfriend was obtained; football almanacs were dusted off and scanned from cover to cover; match reports read; team rosters inspected; fan forums observed; journalists interviewed; hours of TV footage reviewed; player dossiers complied; and an excessive amount of stroking of the chin while looking ponderously into the air and uttering ‘hmmmmm’ was done. The result is a thorough review of all 20 Série A teams. Continue reading
